Pan African writers call for papers on Nobel laureate, Gurnah

The Pan African Writers Association (PAWA), Ugandan Women Writers Association (FEMRITE), and Makerere University in Uganda have jointly announced an upcoming “International Literature Conference” celebrating the life and literary works of renowned author and Nobel laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah. The event is scheduled to take place from November 22nd to 24th, 2023, at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.

The conference’s central theme revolves around “Celebrating the Life and Works of Abdulrazak Gurnah for the Future of African Literature.” Distinguished scholars, writers, and enthusiasts from across the globe are invited to participate in the intellectual gathering and explore the various subthemes, which include aspects like Abdulrazak Gurnah’s life and works, migration in African literature, literature in African languages, and the role of technology in the realm of literature.

Individuals interested in contributing to the conference are encouraged to submit their papers via email to info@femrite.org, copying pawahouse@gmail.com and kiizatisaac@gmail.com. The deadline for the submission of full papers is September 25th, 2023. Authors are requested to include their abstracts on the first page of their submissions.

Hilda Twongyeirwe, the Secretary of the Organising Committee, expressed gratitude to those who have already submitted their papers under the initial Call and advised against resending unless necessary changes have been made.

According to Twongyeirwe, the conference promises to be an enriching experience for all attendees, fostering discussions on diverse topics and contributing to the growth and appreciation of African literature on the global stage.
