SPLENDORS OF DAWN ANNOUNCES 10 ENTRIES FOR THE FIRST STAGE OF ITS COMPETITION

The Splendors of Dawn Poetry Foundation has released the list of its first stage qualifiers of the Splendors of Dawn Poetry and Short-Short Story Competition, the February-April 2024 edition. The competition commenced the call for entry in February 2024 had over 25 entries, and has gone through scrutinisation from its judge for the quarter.

The Judge, Carl Terver, is a Nigerian writer of Tiv ancestry. He is a noted style critic, writing mostly on new Nigerian poetry, an editor, and a poet known for his minimalist poetry in the 7th-century Japanese poet Hitomaro style. The judge took a deep ride and chose the best entries that spoke to the quarter’s theme.

 

The competition theme: “Whispers of Justice: Verses Against Corruption” – This topic encourages poets to raise their voices against corruption through powerful and evocative verses. Poems can delve into the injustices caused by corruption, the struggles of those affected, and the need for accountability and reform. Poets may draw inspiration from real-life stories, historical events, or personal experiences to convey the urgency of fighting corruption.

10 entries were chosen to move on to the next round of this competition. Below are the winners:

9. THE EARTH WILL REVOLT AGAIN! by Olajuwon Joseph Olumide

10. JUSTICE FOR A NATION WHERE MEN BEAR PAIN LIKE A SACRAMENT ON THEIR FLESH by Daniel Aôndona
