The Family of Poets in Nigeria Initiative (PIN) stands in solemn remembrance of the late Chief Justice Kate Abiri of Bayelsa state. We are deeply saddened by the passing of this remarkable woman who left an indelible mark on our hearts and our organization. In 2019, Chief Justice Abiri graciously accorded us the honor of a courtesy visit to her, and that day remains etched in our memories.

During our visit to Yenagoa, the members of the PIN entourage experienced her warmth and hospitality, making us feel right at home. What stood out was her kindness in converting Her Majesty’s office into a mini-hall for the reading and recital of poetry by some of our talented poets, including Awodiya Funke and Solutionist Clementina. The event was made possible through the efforts of Chinemerem Mary Anyi, who facilitated the visit in conjunction with the PIN connect center in Yenagoa, led by Barr: Poet Ebi Robert and Kolade Olanrewaju Freedom (Executive Secretary of PIN).

Chief Justice Abiri’s presence at the award ceremony of the Nigerian Students Poetry Prize (NSPP) winners at Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa state, was a testament to her love for creativity and her unwavering support for its promotion. Her appreciation for the arts inspired many, and we are forever grateful for the encouragement she bestowed upon aspiring poets.

As we bid farewell to Chief Justice Kate Abiri, we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Her passing leaves a void in our hearts, but her legacy will continue to live on, inspiring generations to come. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
